Obtain food grade containers from a restaurant supply store for food storage containers.
You need to provide a stainless steel cover for you half rack. Don not use the wood you have as it is not smooth or easily cleanable. Also, discontinue using milk crates to store plates, etc and to store stuff on.
You need a door sweep on the entrance door to eliminate the gap.
